Christina König

Visual artist Christina König (b. 1988) explores deep history and engages with networks of alternative practitioners as a way of connecting with broader knowledge systems. Storytelling serves as a central method in her practice, enabling her to translate and transform knowledge and experiences in various media, such as painting, film, and installation.

Her research-driven practice is informed by philosophical concepts such as the Japanese notion of Ikigai — a reason for being or sense of purpose — and worlding, understood as the collective making of worlds from an interspecies perspective.  

In recent years, a new dimension has emerged in Königs painting practice. Working through an intuitive and sensuous approach, she explores color, layering, and materiality, allowing harmony and rapture to awaken the viewer’s curiosity. Rather than being led by logic, she trusts the gestures of her hand and body, creating paintings that invite contemplation and remain open to multiple interpretations.

Christina König graduated from the Funen Art Academy and The School of Visual Arts in Copenhagen in 2025. Her recent exhibitions include Den Frie Udstillingsbyning, Kunsthal Kongegaarden, and SIC Copenhagen. In 2026, she was awarded a one-year working grant from the Villa Fjordhøj Foundation.
